Bio

Paul gave you the news so I'll tell you how we got together and all the other boring stuff.

Our name comes from "The Cellar Club", a Clontarf youth club we went to as teenagers. It was a pretty crazy place, one injury a night was the norm as the "innovative" games got out of hand! Paul was taken away in an ambulance on one occasion thanks to a rendezvous between his head and a nail. The club was eventually closed down. It wasn't "safe" for human inhabitation and the fire exit was about the size of a computer monitor. "IN CASE OF FIRE TRY AND SAVE YOUR ARM! "

Up until 1996 we led pretty different lives. For 4 years, Paul had been a policeman based in Dublin and I, on the other hand, was a musician since leaving school.

I taught myself to play guitar by stringing up an old frying pan with the hair from a recently deceased shi-tzu. Okay not strictly true, it was a korgi. I began playing in various bands. I played in various bands over the years as a serious musican and was very lucky to tour Ireland, Europe, Mexico and the Middle East.

Anyway, some years later, on my way to a gig, I met Paul 'on the beat' in the city. He'd been writing songs and talked me into getting together and working on new ones. In a short space of time we had written a handful of songs and played them for everyone, just to see if we were as good as we thought we were (that stuff never leaves you). In 1997, after some gigs in Ireland, Paul was asked to join traditional music legends "De Danann" as their singer. He travelled throughout Ireland, America and in Europe for a year. I though I'd lost him but he had a greater love for working on our own music (thank God).

In Jan' 1999 we went to Midem, a global music industry convention held in Cannes every year. Cannes as you know isn't the cheapest place on earth (exchange rate is £10 = 1 small sandwich!). We shared a couch in to a room and managed to get into the convention centre and pass out our demos. I was asked to work as a sound engineer at a show in a bar called "Morrisons". I agreed on the condition that we got to play for 20 minutes. We played four songs and caught the ears of Canadian producer, Shawn Pierce and bassist Chris Tarry from "Metalwood". Shawn is the hardest working man on the planet. He selects and edits music for TV. Shows such as Stargate SG-1, Outer Limits and Poltergeist and produces several artist from Canada.

In July '00 we travelled to Vancouver with a big bag of money, thanks to our friends, family, I.M.R.O. (and the government) and recorded 9 songs with Shawn. He rounded up local artists Chris Tarry on Bass, Chris Gestrin on Keys, Dave Robbins On Drums, Jesse Zubot on Mandolin and Violin and Beverley Staunton on backing vocals for our debut album. We recorded some more tracks in Ireland with Declan Sinnott and Dave Mc Cune and the album 'Scored For Life' was complete.

We've opened for Clannad, Eddi Reader, Kieran Goss, Jools Holland, Kirsty Mc Coll, Mary and Frances Black and many more.

Anyway, we hope you enjoy our newly designed website. You can now download songs from the album "Scored for Life" and buy it online. (Sell, Sell, Sell !)

Slan,

Dave.
